Holbox, meaning “black hole” in Maya, was founded in 1873 by the descendents of the pirates who took refuge there. The island is surrounded by beautiful landscapes, nature and an environment of relaxation.

Bird's Island.

isla pajaros, holbox islandJust 30 minutes by boat is a small island (approximately 60 meters (200 feet) in diameter), located in the lagoon of Conilor Yalahau where thousands of species of aquatic birds of great beauty live. Some are endangered species. In order to protect the natural environment, there are 2 lookouts and walkways so as to minimize direct contact with the birds. In this beautiful and exotic island you will be able to admire birds of wondrous beauty such as: the flamingo, cormorán, white and brown herons, tri-colored frigates, white and brown pelicans, white ibis, the pink spatula, the white and ash grey garzon, wild comacho, wild ducks, gaviotas and other species that live and nest here. This is a worthy place to admire and find species that are few in number, but are protected in a completely natural environment.

Pasion Island.

isla pasionA small barren island found 10 minutes by boat from Holbox that invite you rest in beauty and tranquility. Though small it has inspired stories and fantasies of great adventures. Ideal for enjoying all the privacy that nature can offer.

 

 


Cenote of Yalahau.

cenote yalahauThe cristaline waters of cenote with its opening to the sea is found 15 kilometers (9 miles) from the island and it is only reachable by boat. With all its freshness and beauty was a refuge for the famous pirate Molas in the 16th century, it was a merchant port for the state. Now it leaves only it's history. Gone are all indications of it's community and port. Today it has been converted into a place exclusively for nature lovers. With subtil fragrance and forest charm, it bewitches all those who dip in this beutiful pool.
